Bert, Ernie, The New Yorker and DoMa

When it comes to fundamental things like this, I don’t have much of a vocabulary. I speak plainly. Bear with me.

So, I don’t think Bert and Ernie were *meant* to be gay icons. Sesame Street put out a statement that they aren’t. Not that that matters. I watched Bert and Ernie growing up and them and Grover were my favourite dudes EVER. I think Bert and Ernie show us that two people can love each other no matter what.

I haven’t said anything about DoMA being struck down, being sorta overwhelmed with information. My US friends are joyful. So am I. With this image on the cover of the New Yorker, a lot of people have gripes about their childhood icons being used to celebrate a political issue – and to that I say : I think Bert and Ernie show us that two people can love each other no matter what.
