Geek Week

In honour of Geek Week, which ends Sunday, these are my offerings.

(1) Superman

But from a long, long time ago (via donaldson1)

“The Fleischer & Famous Superman cartoons are a series of seventeen animated Technicolor short films released by Paramount Pictures and based upon the comic book character Superman.”

Here is part Two.

  • Ep 4 – The Bulleteers Pt2
  • Ep 5 – The Magnetic Telescope
  • Ep 6 – Electric Earthquake

The six episodes, I must say, make for terrific weekend viewing.
If you want to see the rest of them, they’re available for download at the Internet Archives, as listed here.

(2) Batman

Last night, I watched The Dark Knight Returns, a two-part animated film directed by Mr. Oliva, who also worked on storyboarding Man of Steel and other highly cool Batman films.

Without spoiling it, I’ll tell you that it features all our favourite heroes and villains from the DC ‘Verse, with a twist or two. Also, everyone’s quite a bit older now. Jim Gordon‘s retiring. Alfred’s as acerbic as ever. And yeah. There’s a chick Robin.

Oh, and in case you missed out on all the awesomes, recap YouTube’s special offerings here, and if you’re reading this on Friday, Felicia Day of Geek & Sundry reads the Fan Friday Geek Week News for YouTube. And besides, LA, Tokyo and London, the clocks overhead do in fact read Asgard and Mars.

Finally?

Ruslan Khasanov (I wonder if he’s descended from the great Casanova) is an artist who blended ink, oil and soap together after he mused about soy sauce and oil. This is via sobadsogood

I realise I’ve been a little DC-centric today, but don’t you worry. My love for X-Men and Spidey will rear its head soon. Meanwhile, may the Force be with you all. And remember, always : Nobody cares if you upset a droid.

Isn’t he a dream?
